Jewelry CAD features, from first sketch to casting

Diatech Make is jewelry design software for rings, bands, pendants, earrings and necklaces. Every piece is saved as a short, readable file, so you can come back a year later, change the ring size or the stone count, and watch the model rebuild.

The short version

  • It runs in the browser on Mac, Windows and Linux. There is nothing to install.
  • Settings are built on each stone's measured girdle, so fancy cuts fit properly.
  • You can paint pavé onto any surface, including AI sculpts and 3D scans.
  • It exports STL, 3MF, GLB and OBJ, with metal weight, a stone list and a bench tech sheet.
  • You can design by hand, or let an AI assistant work on the same file.

Stone settings

Stones in Diatech Make are real objects with a table, girdle and culet. Settings are built around that shape. A halo follows the three curved sides of a trillion, a marquise gets prongs on its tips, and an emerald-cut bezel keeps its corners mitred. More on this in pavé and stone setting.

  • Gem library. Round, oval, princess, cushion, emerald, asscher, radiant, marquise, pear, heart, baguette, tapered baguette, trillion, hexagonal, octagonal and more, with preset sizes and carat weights. You can also turn any imported model into a custom cut.
  • Heads and baskets with as many prongs and rails as you need, and round, pointed, flat, claw or V tips.
  • Bezels in full, half, underbezel, tube and girdle-rim styles that follow the stone's outline.
  • Flush (gypsy) settings: each stone sunk into the metal by its girdle, its seat drilled.
  • Channel settings, single and double halos.
  • Shared-prong and bead pavé with V-cut or scallop bright cutting, and micro-pavé pads with drilled seats.
  • Illusion plates and pendant bails.
  • Cutters for drills, seats, bearings and countersinks, plus azure windows, channel grooves and micro-prong pockets for a whole row at once.

Pavé and stone layout

  • Paint pavé onto any 3D surface. Brush an area, select it with the magic wand, or draw a path, then fill it. It works through folds, wraps and domes.
  • Pack stones in hexagonal, square, brick, row, concentric or scattered patterns.
  • Fill the leftover border with the largest standard melee that still fits. Sizes you can't buy get flagged.
  • Set pear, marquise, emerald and heart melee in neat, evenly turned rows.
  • Place stones along a path, around an axis, in a grid or around a center stone, and taper a row from small to large while every table stays level.
  • Get a warning when stones overlap, and a fit check against the finished metal.

Curves, solids and surfaces

  • Draw lines, arcs, circles, ellipses, polygons, helices, ring rails and free Bézier curves. Offset, fillet, trim, join, bridge, mirror and project them onto a surface.
  • Pick from 18 band profiles, including comfort fit, court, D-shape, knife edge, pillow, concave, beveled and half-round.
  • Extrude, revolve and sweep, including multi-rail and multi-section sweeps that taper, pinch, twist and scale along the way.
  • Loft, patch, pull, morph and thicken surfaces, or shape a control-point net by hand.
  • Boolean, fillet and chamfer, then bend, twist, taper, skew, whirl or flow along a curve.
  • Start from standard solids and 15 castable findings: jump rings, earring posts, ear wires, lever-backs, pearl cups, hinges, clasps, bails and end caps.

Scans, sculpts and imported models

  • Import STEP, BREP, STL and GLB, and open Rhino and JewelCAD files as editable models.
  • Separate, cut, simplify, smooth and symmetrize meshes, or mirror one half over the other.
  • Hollow any solid to a wall thickness you choose, closed or open at the back, or close off an open back.
  • Set stones directly on AI sculpts and scans, even ones with holes in the mesh.

Engraving and surface detail

  • Raised or cut text in any font, straight or along a curve. Ring inscriptions wrap all the way around.
  • Wrap an SVG, a word or a curve around a band as an emboss or an engraving.
  • Graver grooves, milgrain and relief from a grayscale image.

Manufacturing and reports

  • Metal weight for yellow, white and rose gold, platinum, palladium, silver and more.
  • A stone list with cut, size, count and carats, and one-click pricing from your Studio price book.
  • Minimum wall thickness and where it is, plus design rules that stop an export when a wall is too thin to cast.
  • A bench tech sheet with a gem map and dimensioned views.
  • STL and 3MF for casting and 3D printing, GLB for web and AR, OBJ, and a size run with one file per finger size.
  • US, EU, UK, Australian, Japanese and Hong Kong ring sizes, or inner circumference.

Color and rendering

  • Two-tone metal and gem colors per object. Recoloring never rebuilds the model.
  • A ray-traced viewer with diamond sparkle, turntables and a set of lighting environments.
  • Shaded, wireframe, ghosted and X-ray views, and a clipping plane.

The editor

  • A ribbon with jewelry tool names, a ⌘K command palette and a right-click menu.
  • Gumball, box select, face, edge and vertex picking, snapping and measuring.
  • A code view that stays in sync with the model in both directions.
  • Reusable parts, mirrors and patterns.
  • Undo and redo, crash recovery, starter templates and an example gallery.

Automation and AI

A command line and a Python API can validate, export, report and render designs, which is handy for batch work and size runs. AI assistants can do the same over MCP. Read how AI jewelry design works.

Try it on a real piece

Diatech Make is free to try with a Diatech account. Open the editor, start from a template, or bring in a Rhino or JewelCAD file you already have.
